Meet Dr Rida Wang

From a young age, I knew I wanted a work in healthcare and help people feel better.  As I was completing my Bachelors of Science co-op degree in Kinesiology at Simon Fraser University (SFU), I was at a crossroads as to which avenue of healthcare to pursue.  It wasn’t until I was personally injured in three separate car accidents in my last year at SFU that my path became clear.

Despite being a rehabilitation therapist and teaching rehabilitation classes as part of my Kinesiology work/study co-op program, my body wasn’t healing.  Migraines, back pain, insomnia, depression and muscle spasms that were previously foreign to me made studying and simple daily activities a  physical and mental challenge.

I asked my rehabilitation patients which of the many therapies they were doing were helping them the most, and the answer I heard time and again cautiously whispered to me was,  “acupuncture.”  This was at a time that acupuncture was not a licensed practice in BC yet.  Despite my skepticism, my desperation for relief drove me to seek out an acupuncturist.  When I experienced 80% pain relief after my first acupuncture treatment, my path was made clear.

I started researching acupuncture schools.  It was then that I stumbled upon a term I had not yet heard before, “Naturopathic Medicine.”  The principles of Naturopathic Medicine resonated with me immediately:

  • first, do no harm

  • the healing power of nature

  • treat the cause

  • doctor as teacher

  • treat the whole person

  • prevention

A few months later, I moved to Seattle, Washington to pursue my degrees in Naturopathic Medicine and a Masters in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.

I went on to do incredibly valuable internships in China, Taiwan, New York, Seattle and Vancouver.  When I graduated, I traveled to over 70 countries on a cruise ship while treating thousands of patients from around the world, delivered over 200 healthcare presentations, and learned to truly appreciate the opportunity to touch and heal the lives of SO many amazing people.

With over 15 years’ experience of practicing Naturopathic Medicine and Acupuncture, I am truly grateful for the opportunity to work with a community of patients motivated to seek out their optimal health potential.

Find out how amazing you can feel.  I look forward to working with you soon.
