Dr. Wang’s appreciation of nutrition as a medicine deepened through intensive classes on nutrition for specific populations including patients with cancer, HIV, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, IBS, various other health conditions, food sensitivities, athletes, vegans and vegetarians. Nutrition continues to be a major component in Dr. Wang’s treatments, among other complementary therapies.

The intensive 4-year post-graduate Naturopathic Medicine program included over 4000 hours of training in nutrition, herbal medicine, homeopathy, physical medicine, lab analysis, clinical diagnosis, endocrinology, gynecology, cardiology, gastroenterology, immunology, and pharmacology.

Dr. Wang’s appreciation for the power of Acupuncture came from several personal experiences with relief from Acupuncture treatments and Chinese Herbal Medicine. After suffering three car accidents in her final year of undergraduate studies, Dr. Wang finally got relief from her pain and neuropathy after her very first acupuncture treatment.

During a one-year self-directed study at several clinics in Taiwan, Dr. Wang had the opportunity to witness the incredible healing power of Chinese Herbal Medicine in treating some of the most stubborn, chronic cases of illness that were unresponsive to other forms of therapy. The combination of Acupuncture with prescribed Chinese Herbs rendered such extraordinary results that upon her return to Bastyr University, Dr. Wang enrolled in the Chinese Herbal Medicine program in addition to her already intensive studies in the Naturopathic Medicine and Acupuncture programs. Dr. Wang completed her Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine studies with an internship at the Chengdu University Hospital in Chengdu, China.

Dr. Wang began her passion for the study of health and sports medicine during her studies in Health Sciences and Human Movement (Kinesiology) at Simon Fraser University near her hometown Vancouver. She soon developed a keen interest in sports nutrition for helping athletes maximize their performance and in functional nutrition for lasting overall health.

Dr. Wang earned her co-op degree designation through her work experience in various physiotherapy and orthopedic clinics. Rida had the opportunity to work with rehabilitation patients who had suffered from stroke, heart attacks, work-related injuries, motor vehicle accidents, and sports injuries to get them back to their lives, work, and sport.

Her final year at Simon Fraser University included a self-directed honors thesis on the study of Complementary Therapies for Prostate Cancer. Several years later, Dr. Wang then used many of the therapies she has researched and studied in treating her own father who was diagnosed with prostate cancer and is now cancer-free.
